Research project rubric and timeline

Research project rubric and timeline
Your goal is to write a short “research proposal” with preliminary results. You should summarize data that you are interested in studying, show descriptive statistics from that dataset, and complete at least one econometric analysis using the skills developed in our class.
Because this is a just a proposal, it is perfectly fine if your results are preliminary or you think that they are incomplete or imperfect (e.g., due to limited data or endogeneity). However, you should clearly identify the limitations of your analysis and suggest how you would improve upon them if you were writing a full paper.
Expectations:
Your paper should be approximately 4 double spaced pages, not including any tables, pictures, or references that you include. It will have a few parts.

  • Intro
  • Data
  • Empirical strategy/econometric specification
  • Preliminary results
  • Conclusions
  • Bibliography/references

In the intro you will motivate your question and explain what your general approach is. In the data section you will describe your data source and provide basic summary statistics. The empirical strategy section discusses how your regression strategy will study the causal effect of interest. The results section will describe your results.
Deadlines:
It is due Dec 2th.
2/3 of your final project grade will come from the final paper. The remaining 1/3 will be determined by the following milestones.

  • 11/4 — Choose your topic
    • Write a short, 1-paragraph description of topic that you intend to study and why it is interesting. [your paper can evolve after you choose your topic]
  • 11/18 — In-class discussion on results

Obviously, you should not plagiarize any of your writing: all writing must be yours and facts/authors must be cited appropriately. See here for details on plagiarism and how to avoid it: https://libguides.lib.miamioh.edu/academicintegrity/plagiarism

What patterns are similar themes emerge?

1. What patterns are similar themes emerge?
2. What differences exist in the coding structures?
3. How will these differences lead to distinctions in the findings among the two researchers?
4. Design a graphic illustration to represent the relationships between the themes that were used in the analyzed transcript you believe best reduces the data collected. Use themes from only one of the researchers to complete the graphic. (See sample graphic)

Naked Egg

Naked Eggs!!
PART 1:
Vinegar and Eggs
For this experiment, you will need a tape measure, clear container with a lid, two eggs, large spoon and distilled white vinegar. First, measure and then record the circumference of the raw eggs. Place the eggs in the same container, and cover them with distilled vinegar. Write down your observations, then place the container in the refrigerator for 24 hours. Take a look at the egg after this time and write down what you observe, Return the egg to the refrigerator for 24 more hours.
Once the second 24 hours have passed, remove the container from the refrigerator, and carefully take the egg out of the container with a large spoon. Re-measure the circumference of the egg, and discuss the cause of the changes witnessed.
What happened to the egg?
Why?
PART 2:
Shell-less Egg in Corn Syrup/ Sugar Syrup
Create two shell-less eggs using the first experiment. Put one egg in a container covered with water and put the other one in a container covered with corn syrup. Refrigerate these containers overnight. Unlike water, corn syrup has a lower water concentration than the egg. The egg covered in corn syrup will be smaller than the egg covered in water because water will pass from the egg into the syrup.
All data must be presented in a lab report.
